Poetic Happenings

Everyday Wonders
My life gleams
with dustry roads
and the instrument of crickets,
with the moon
as streetlamp
through my second story
window
and the smell
of coffee when I rise
late on Saturdays.
Just today
I thought about all that,
driving my mud-splattered
10-year-old car
to the park
with the only child
I will ever have,
and I think I was
wearing sweats
and walking shoes
and I'm pretty sure
my hair was stuck
in a ponytail
to hide its inadequecies,
and no one
gave me a second look
at the gas station.
But I think he will love me
no matter what.
And so will my little girl
made of butterfly and honey,
the three of us filling
up our earth
with our own blooms
of extraordinary
everyday
wonders.
